Part 2 : Group Task Portion
1.
During the 1600’s, the main source
of news is from newspapers. Newspapers stories go directly to a copydesk for
editing whereas the graphic arts department supplies photos and illustrations.
Newspapers during that time were not as timely as it is now. The design on
newspapers were not really taken noticed of but the content of the news were
more focused on. Today, news is timelier and designs on newspaper are highly
paid attention to, for the purpose of attracting more attention from readers.
However, when news could be
broadcast to radio and television during the 1920-1930’s, newspapers were not the only source of news. In the 21st century, news can be read online by
people, as mobile devices are commonly owned since it can be bought at a reasonable
price. The Internet has taken over the advertising revenue. Hence, readers who
read news online are charged a certain amount of money for a sum of content
read. Journalist today uses the Internet as their personal asset since
everything could be done with it. News delivery over the Internet might change
consumers’ view on newspapers and have curiosity on the jobs relating to
newspapers. Hardcopies of newspapers might not be even published in years to
come when online newspapers are highly and conveniently accessible.
2.
Nowadays
young people are not interested in newspapers for several reasons, one of them
is the fact that our generation is too dependent on gadgets, and accordingly,
the main volume of information they derive from the same place. Our generation
is more convenient to get information online rather than buying the newspaper,
as it is faster and easier. Another reason many students is limited to a limit
of money, and, accordingly, the newspaper sidelined to arouse an interest of our
generation to newspapers. We think newspapers should emphasis on the design of
it because most of them look very boring and official for young generation, and
automatically recall the stereotype that newspapers are read only by
respectable man. In our opinion, it would be more interesting to read about
other interesting events happening in the world than a political scandal and
another point to arouse an interest is to put more interviews with interesting
and extraordinary personalities.
3.
Newspapers are still relevant today
as it connects people to the world. People are able to receive the most recent
and informative news from the newspaper. Although the people find reading
newspaper is time consuming and inconvenient to bring newspapers with them, yet
newspapers are still the most reliable source to the people. We should not let
the newspapers die naturally, it should follow the footsteps of technology. For
instance, news should be posted online as people find it easier to read and
most importantly the news are timely. Newspapers in the future should be less
advertisements as many people find the increasing number of advertisements will
only increase the number of pages of the newspaper. Besides, newspapers in the
future should be as small as a book size, it would be easier for people to
bring the newspaper around with them wherever they go.
4.
As we all know, newspapers play
an important role in our life, country and future. We can get many information
from the newspapers as well as the latest news of the world. Therefore,
credibility is very important in the newspapers industry, people will not trust
an unreliable information if the newspapers company do not provide sufficient
evidence.
In our opinions, online
newspapers have more credibility than mainstream newspapers. Many people prefer
reading online newspapers over mainstream newspapers. They find it convenience
and cost-free as they can read news by using smartphones or electronic devices.
It is cost-free as we can browse to the news website and read news for free. We
can even get the latest news to keep us up-to-date, the mainstream newspaper
industry provides information which is usually a short time ago.
Online newspapers only have
limited spaces for advertisements whereas mainstream newspapers usually consist
of many advertisements which people usually find them annoying. Besides, online
newspapers provide information that is straight to the point and less
elaboration. The sentences are usually short and straightforward.
