Blog Task 5
Part 1 - Lecture Reflection
1) Radio is a transmission and
reception of electromagnetic waves of radio frequency and it contains sound
messages for everyone around the corner. During 1880's-1890's a physicist at the German Heinrich Hertz proved the existence of electromagnetic waves by means of experiment. In 1898 Sir Oliver Lodge received a patent for the use of certain elements in the wireless transmitter or receiver. Obtaining a patent became the basis for a mechanism for tuning the radio to the desired frequency. It is noteworthy that further research in this area Lodge did not conduct, causing the honour to wear the title of inventor of the first radio went to Russian physics professor, electrical engineering Alexander Stepanovich Popov. Popov was first able to demonstrate the ability to transmit a radio signal that could carry a certain information. In 1906 Reginald Fessenden Canadian conducted the first radio broadcast in which the person playing the violin, and read a short text from the Bible. Since then, the voice broadcasting began to develop with each passing year more and more. In 1918, Edwin Armstrong presented Superheterodyne which improves the sensitivity of radio receivers in a wide range of frequencies. After more than 15 years, the same American scientist patented FM-radio, which uses frequency modulation that allows to reduce interference.

Today, radio remains one of the most common means of broadcasting, despite the development of television, technology, etc. Until now, even in the technology era, radio has been an instrument that everyone knows and people make good use of them. Radio for many years was the best friend of man, it saved him from despondency, to communicate important news and educational. Although in the early 80's of the last century, many thought that the arrival of new technologies and services would make radio's obsolete. Nevertheless, it has survived and today, competes with the Internet.

2) The impact of Orson Welles’ broadcast was people in the society were so naïve they blindly believed the
messages transmitted to them. During Depression,
President Roosevelt spoke on the radio knowing people were over-dependent on the
radio and also, were able to attain latest information through it. In our opinion,
radios can produce an impact and influence today’s era of digital radio, as
every common household owns one as a form of entertainment and
decoration. In this generation where the music industry has influenced most of
the youngsters’ behaviour, the radio programs could be used as one of the source
for education. Nowadays, radio DJ’s or announcers are youths role models and when they share a specific educational message, they will most
likely listen to it attentively. Radios can also be known as a “boredom pill” in the
traffic during peak hours. Hence, songs that are played with meaningful lyrics
can actually share significant messages during that period of time.

3) The first learning point would have to be how traditional radio has transitioned to digital radio. Meaning, people do not have to sit beside it and anxiously wait for their favourite program or music to be aired. As of now, they can access it in real time via the internet and furthermore, even tune into a previous program that was aired using Internet Radio. The second learning point is how music has developed over the years and decades. As each decade zooms by, individuals find different set of genres appealing and eventually make it a trend. That includes the era of rock, boy bands and K-pop. However, in my opinion, music that were generated during the 50's-90's are more meaningful and pleasant to listen to or basically, the classics.
